Pulmonary Embolism was the cause of death for a Furman football player who collapsed on the field and died
Furman University announced the cause of death of a football player who passed early February. On Feb. 23, the university said Bryce Stanfield‘s autopsy revealed his cause of death was pulmonary embolism.
A pulmonary embolism is a sudden blockage in your pulmonary arteries, the blood vessels that send blood to your lungs. It usually happens when a blood clot in the deep veins in your leg breaks off and travels to your lungs. A blood clot that travels to another part of your body is called an embolus.
Bryce Stanfield was hospitalized after suffering a medical emergency at a workout in Paladin Stadium. After going on life support, he sadly passed on Feb. 9. He was 21.
Please keep the family of the young man in your prayers. This is such a sad and tragic situation.
