What is your favorite song to listen to prior to competing?

Read Me My Rights – Brantley Gilbert.

How would your teammates describe you as both a player and person?

They would describe me as dedicated and smart with the ability to diagnose a defense and get the offensive line in a position to succeed. They would probably also say that I am one of the biggest trash talkers in the locker room. But it is in more of a fun, joking, and sarcastic way.

How do you and your teammates make practice and film study fun?

We make a lot of jokes about each other and try to keep it as light and fun as possible.

When you are studying film, what is your main focus to gain a competitive advantage?

As a Center, I try to watch the whole defense and understand as much of the opponent’s scheme as possible. I feel that by understanding what they are trying to do as a whole, it allows me to call the protections and run schemes that best exploit them.

While at the Collegiate level, who has been the toughest player you have competed against?

I know that this answer is a cop out, but I always keep the mindset that the next opponent is the toughest player I have to compete against. This keeps me mentally dialed in on every opponent. Along with the fact that I am too competitive to admit that any defensive lineman is good.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

I feel grateful for the endless love and support that I have from my family and friends. They have really been there for me every step of the way.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be?

I suppose the ability to read minds would be beneficial so that I would know what the opposing players are thinking at all times.

What do you value most from your Collegiate experience?

After being out of college football for three long months, I’ve learned that I value the camaraderie and the brotherhood the most. The relationships that I built with my teammates I will be able to cherish for a lifetime.

Who is your personal hero?

My Dad.

Tell me something about yourself nobody would know.

I was once number two in the world on a BMX bike, when my brothers and I were serious about racing and used to travel all over the country. I think I outgrew the bikes just a little bit.

How do you work on yourself?

I try to learn from past mistakes and be conscious of opportunities to put it into practice.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

My girlfriend, because with how hectic this process has been we haven’t been able to do it enough.

If you could have any superpower, what power would it be and why?

I think I would want to fly.

What would constitute a perfect day for you?

Honestly anytime that I get to be with my family is a perfect day. It is hard with all of us growing up and being in school and different stages of our lives, so whenever we get the chance to all be together I relish it.

Who inspired you as a young athlete?

Vladimir GuerreroI grew up an Angels fan, and a watched a documentary on him and how he grew up hitting bottle caps with a stick that allowed him to grow into the hitter he was. That inspired me to do whatever it takes to play the game that I love.

What are the positive attributes that you bring to a professional football team?

I think I bring a sense of camaraderie and leadership to the offensive line room. I am a resource on the football field. I am good at understanding play concepts and getting everyone on the same page up front, which allows me to successfully lead an offensive line.

Tell me about a time where you overcame a challenge.

Last season I dislocated my elbow two weeks into fall camp, and in the ambulance to the hospital I thought my playing career was over. I worked really hard with my group of trainers to get back on the field and was actually able to get back on the field almost two weeks earlier than the doctors said I would be able to.

What one skill would you like to improve on? What’s your plan for doing so?

Leadership, I believe that you always have room to grow and improve in terms of leadership. I try to be conscious of it every day and make sure that I am leading in the right direction.

What current/former NFL player do you model your playing style after?

Travis Frederick. I think we are both larger than average centers and are very comparable in stature. He plays the position very stout in the middle and is known for understanding the whole defense and utilizing his mind and knowledge on the field. Similarly, I believe that my understanding and mind for the game are some of my biggest strengths.

What is the best part of your hometown; Riverside, CA?

Being from Riverside does have its perks. I would say the best part of Riverside is the central location, meaning that we are under an hour away from the beach, the mountains, the desert, all the amenities and fun.

In 15 words or less, give me your pitch to an NFL GM on why you should be a part of their organization.

I take pressure off of the quarterback by understanding the whole play and getting my offensive line on the same page.
