Fotis Kokosioulis began his road to the 2023 NFL Draft at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, IL – where he won the 2016 IHSA Class 8A State Championship, earned First Team All-State recognition in 2017, and holds the school record for career rushing yards (4,029) and touchdowns (69).
Kokosioulis accumulated a 31-8 record at Maine South under Head Coach Dave Inserra. He was also a three-time All-Central Suburban League honoree and IHSA All-State Academic team member from 2015-2017.
Before Kokosioulis’ senior season, he pledged his commitment to the University of Northern Illinois). As a senior, Kokosioulis recorded 2167 total yards and 29 total touchdowns and helped Maine South reach the IHSA Class 8A Semifinals. After the season, Kokosioulis signed his letter of intent to continue his athletic and academic career at NIU under former Head Coach Rod Carey.
In his true freshman season, Kokosioulis appeared in 11 games for the Huskies and returned nine kickoffs for 151 yards. NIU won the MAC Championship and finished its season with an 8-6 record. Following a loss to UAB in the Boca Raton Bowl, Carey left NIU to replace Manny Diaz as the Head Coach at Temple.
Without the Head Coach that recruited him to NIU, Kokosioulis entered the transfer portal and pledged to continue his football career at Fordham University.
During the 2019 season, Kokosioulis made a position change to Wide Receiver and became a First Team All-Patriot League performer in his first year at Fordham. Kokosioulis finished his season with 49 receptions, 621 receiving yards, seven receiving touchdowns, 40 kickoff returns, and 869 return yards.
The following season, Fordham had its 2020 football season shortened to three games due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Kokosioulis appeared in all three games and recorded 20 receptions, 278 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. Kokosioulis led Fordham in receptions and receiving yards and received First-Team All-Patriot League recognition for the second-straight season.
As a senior in 2021, Kokosioulis established himself as one of the most productive receivers in the FCS. Starting all 11 games in the slot, Kokosioulis caught 57 passes for 783 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. Kokosioulis led the Patriot League in receptions and receiving touchdowns while finishing second in receiving yards. For the third-straight season, Kokosioulis earned First Team All-Patriot League honors and was named to the 2021 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll List.
Kokosioulis returned to Fordham for his fifth and final collegiate season in 2022 and broke several school records along the way. Starting in 12 games over a 9-3 campaign, Kokosioulis accumulated 103 receptions, 1312 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns, setting new school records in career receiving touchdowns and single-season receptions. He led all FCS receivers in receptions and yards and finished fourth in touchdowns. After the season, he earned First Team AP All-American honors and became one of six FCS receivers to be a Walter Payton Award finalist.
Overall, Kokosioulis totaled 229 receptions, 2994 receiving yards, and 35 receiving touchdowns in four seasons at Fordham.
Scouting Report
At 5-foot-9, 182 pounds, Fotis Kokosioulis is a playmaking slot receiver with below-average size, high-level route-running ability, proficient straight-line speed and twitch, and strong ball skills.
Kokosioulis possesses a compact, muscular build with a well-developed upper body and athletic lower half. Despite only standing at 5-foot-9, Kokosioulis is a powerful athlete with the ball in his hands; His strong frame and low center of gravity allow Kokosioulis to absorb contact, bounce off tacklers, and run through arm tackles. Additionally, Kokosioulis has an effective stiff arm he uses to fight for extra yardage after contact.
Route-running ability and play speed are two of Kokosioulis’s best qualities, which makes him a difficult receiver to cover one-on-one. Kokosioulis boasts a quick release off the ball, fluid change of direction, and an innate ability to sink his hips and explode out of his breaks. With strong acceleration/burst, Kokosioulis creates great separation at the top of his route. He can also stretch the field vertically by using his prominent top-end speed and smooth double moves to get behind a defense.
Additionally, Kokosioulis is a reliable hands-catcher with solid ball skills and a natural ability to track and adjust to the ball in the air. Although he is undersized by NFL standards, Kokosioulis has displayed the ability to catch the ball in traffic amongst taller defensive backs.
While Kokosioulis might possess lackluster height/weight measurements, he makes up for his physical deficiencies with toughness, speed, and dependability in the slot. No receiver in FCS football was more productive than Kokosioulis over the past two seasons, proving he can be a dominant playmaker when inserted into a system that leans heavily on its slot receivers. Plus, Kokosioulis has some valuable upside as a return specialist at the next level.
Kokosioulis is not receiving a lot of pre-draft buzz from the NFL Draft media but should garner plenty of attention from NFL teams closer to late April. Whether Kokosioulis becomes a late-round selection or a priority undrafted free agent, he has the talent and ability to compete for an NFL roster spot in training camp.
