Illinois High School homecoming football game ends with a 14-year-old getting shot and killed
Friday Night Lights ends with a shooting that left a 14-year-old student shot and killed in Illinois.
According to police reports, 14-year-old Marshawn Mitchell was shot and killed shortly after Hillcrest High School’s homecoming football game.
Mitchell was a Hillcrest High School student, according to a statement released by the school.
“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the devastating loss of one of our Hillcrest High School students following a shooting incident that occurred on 175th Street, after the conclusion of the varsity homecoming game Friday evening,” the statemen read. “Our hearts go out to the families and friends of all those involved in this tragedy. We in District 228 are committed to the safety and overall well-being of our students and staff. The District will have supporting resources available on Monday for anyone who may need them.”
The homecoming dance was canceled after the shooting.
The victim was located with multiple gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead from the injuries.
Police continue to investigate the shooting.
