Player Summary:

Senior.  RB, used in a rotation.  Marginal size for the position.  Could add some weight to his frame.  Good and tough inside runner, marginal to below-average outside the tackles with adequate skills in pass protection.  As an inside runner, he is good.  Very decisive ball carrier who can stick his foot in the ground and quickly press the field vertically.  Wastes no time to hit the hole, shoot through gaps and reach the 2nd level.  Runs at a low pad level due to his lack of height which enables him to pinball off tackles and stay on his feet.  Has some decent COD but is mostly a north-south tailback.  Effective in short yardage and picks up first downs.  Needs to work on having better vision and showing patience to follow blocks.  In pass protection he is adequate.  Really likes to hit people more so than block them, but gets the job done.  Will chip and help out OTs.  Will lunge and overextend in his posture when blocking.  Primary problem is lack of top-end speed – just lacks an extra gear to be a home-run threat – which has to be better relative to his frame.  Didn’t show any ability to take one to the house and work on his own in open space.  Was not used as a receiver in the games viewed.  Not as effective when running off-tackle and is quickly brought down in space.

Scheme Fit:

RB

Power Statement:

Jermaine’s primary drawback is lack of top-end speed which needs to be better to compensate for his size deficiencies.  However, he is a good north-and-south running back who is effective between the tackles and displays adequate skills as a blocker.  He’s a marginal player who could increase his value with a good season.
