William Jewell Football Player MicahJo Barnett dies after suffering medical emergency in game

The Draft Diamonds family extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, teammates, coaches, and entire William Jewell College community following the tragic passing of junior student-athlete MicahJo Barnett.

Earlier today, Barnett suffered a medical emergency during William Jewell’s football game against Fort Lewis College. Emergency medical personnel immediately responded and provided care on the sideline. Play was suspended as those efforts took place.

William Jewell College and the Liberty, Missouri community later announced the heartbreaking news of Barnett’s passing.

Barnett was a junior business administration student and a member of the William Jewell Cardinals football program. He was also a former Liberty North Eagle, making his loss especially difficult for the local community, his former teammates, coaches, classmates, and everyone who knew him.

In a statement released Saturday afternoon, William Jewell Athletics shared:

“William Jewell College and the Liberty, Missouri community mourn the passing of Micah Jo Barnett, a junior business administration and member of Jewell Cardinal football program and former Liberty North Eagle.”

The college also expressed its support for Barnett’s family, students, the Cardinal football family, and the broader William Jewell community during this devastating time.

A vigil honoring MicahJo and his family is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight on the William Jewell quad.

They are with MicahJo’s family.

They are with his friends, classmates, former teammates at Liberty North, and the entire William Jewell community.

There are no words that can adequately express the pain of losing a young person with so much life ahead of him.
