Player Summary:
Javon Ivory transferred from TNMS to ALSO for the 2023 season. He started all 12 games as a primary WR and was third highest in receiving yardage and touchdown totals behind a WR and TE at TNMS. His size compared to the average NFL WR size is average/above average in comparison to various reported measurements. Played the position of X on offense which is accurate given his body structure of long limbs which he is able to stride eating up zone defense space as well as the development of route in a timely fashion. Ivory is quick, and agile especially coming in and out of a break causing separation from the defender. Displays decent hand-catching abilities by looking at the ball and catching it away from the body, at times he tends to cradle the ball instead of adjusting his hands to catch it with his fingertips. He is a speedy but not a top-end speed type WR, but has elusiveness to go with his speed allowing him to be productive at the position. Has sound mechanics he gets off the LOS urgently when stemming the route by using his front foot to generate motion, and is a one-speed off the LOS to the end of route type WR. An accurate route runner who can cut on a dime in and out of a route causing illusion for the defender. Doesn’t use his hands as effectively to separate from a defender, especially during the progression of the route tends to allow the defender to control his movement while his hands are down. Has difficulty catching balls thrown to him when tightly covered and lacks at times the ability to stabilize his physical presence when the ball is in the vicinity. Blocks efficiently down the field and in the run game. Squares body with the defender utilizing his arms by extension from his body and latches on the numbers of the defender while doing it with a low base and shuffling feet. All around increased attributes may increase productivity.
Scheme Fit:
RPO, SPREAD, PRO OFFENSE, MULTIPLE
Power Statement:
Not as productive for a starter in a passing offense last year, but this year will be determined to see him as a prime go-to WR for ALSO. Can improve on battle techniques against defenders to create openness and separation by use of hands.
