What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
At a young age, I knew I had speed and was highly aggressive and competitive, which drove me to fall in love with the game of football. My success in high school motivated me to follow my dreams of playing football at a higher level.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Executing on game day after preparing all week. Opportunities it’s given me and the relationships I have built. 2019 Sophomore All American at the University of Northern Iowa.
What sets you apart from other linebackers?
My instinctiveness and nose for the ball personality on the field, along with my quickness and strength in tackling.
What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?
Focus and determination to do what it takes to win. A “can do” attitude and being optimistic which creates a fun and competitive environment.
What should we know about Bryce Flater the person?
100% different person with a helmet on. My actions on the field don’t line up with my compassionate and soft spoken personality off of the field.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Luke Kuechly: plays linebacker (same position as myself) and I idolize how disciplined and dedicated he is to football. His play style, high motor, and true love for the game made him entertaining to watch as a kid.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
3-3-5 because it allows us linebackers to play fast and have many opportunities for disguise coverage and blitzes.
What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?
Mental toughness. Giving 100% even during practice because you play how you practice. Confidence because you can move on from mistakes and play more consistently. Play fast and instinctively.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
Recognizing my mistakes: Being aware of my own strengths and capabilities. Understanding that failure makes me better & roadblocks are inevitable. It’s okay to rely on others, you can’t get through life without assistance from people or have a successful football game without the help of teammates. Having a strong relationship with friends and family who support you.
What would a team get in a player like you?
Coachable. True warrior and will do whatever it takes to win. Highly instinctive. Good teammate.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
Chasing our one goal of a national championship. Continuing solid relationships with my teammates and coaches. Give a mold for the underclassmen to follow.
12.How do you prepare for games?
Get a good night sleep. Eating meals that will fuel by body throughout the game. Reviewing gameday notes. Staying hydrated.
