Cal Poly Football Commit Suddenly Dies at the Age of 17

High school football standout Ryder Barnes has died suddenly at the age of 17, just weeks before he was set to begin his college career at California Polytechnic State University.
News of his passing was confirmed on April 8, prompting an outpouring of support from the Cal Poly football program and the wider community. Barnes had recently committed to join the Mustangs, where he was expected to continue his rise as a promising young athlete.
Barnes built his reputation at Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, where he excelled as a defensive end. During his high school career, he earned multiple honors, including Epsilon League Defensive Player of the Year, All-Orange County recognition, and Defensive MVP distinctions. His performance on the field made him one of the most highly regarded players in his program.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Barnes was known among teammates and peers as a strong presence in the locker room and throughout the school community. Coaches and classmates remembered him for his leadership, character, and the lasting impression he made on those around him.
His death marks a significant loss for both his high school and future college program, as well as the many people who followed his journey and supported his future in football.
Please keep the Barnes family in your prayers.
