2022 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Cameron Thomas, DE, San Diego State

Cameron Thomas the standout defensive end from San Diego State recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds owner Damond Talbot.

What makes you a top prospect at your position  in the 2022 NFL Draft?

My versatility, knowledge, and effort. Starting my career at defensive tackle has helped me a lot playing outside. I learned to play with my hands and leverage inside along with gaining a lot of toughness. My knowledge and understanding for the game is something that I also believe sets me apart from the other prospects and is something that will keep me playing the game I love. I hold myself to the highest stander of effort when I’m on and off the fields. I know I can’t control how a game goes or how well I play overall, but I can control my effort and I do everything I can to strain on every single play.

At what age were you first interested in the sport of football?

I remember the first time I ever went to an NFL game when I was about 8 years old. It was love at first sight. It was a chargers/ chiefs game that I still have vivid memory of till this day.

What is one thing that NFL teams should know about you?

I love this game like I love my mother, I can’t picture my life without it.

If you could donate to one cause in the world, what would it be?

It would be towards ALS research. My uncle has been battling ALS for 3 years and it is very unfortunate that it is such a horrible and uncurbable disease. From the limited research that has been done some treatments have been able to help treat ALS, there just hasn’t been enough funding and awareness to advance the research for this disease to its potential.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Effort will never betray you.

Overcoming adversity is what defines character, what was the hardest moment in your life to overcome?

My grandmother had passed on my 18th birthday. A week after her passing I had to report to San Diego state as a freshman.

Tell me something about your school and why it is so special to you?

Besides the fact of San Diego being my home, the people I met during my time there is what makes it special to me.

What is your favorite snack food?

Peanut butter

What is the best part of football?

Winning

If you could sell yourself in one sentence what would you say?

I live for football and the people closest to me.

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be?

JJ Watt. He is someone that was asked to play all over the defensive line like me and just dominated at ever spot. He has a mentality that I relate to.

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would it be and why?

  1. Kevin Hart to entertain
  2. Alicia Keys to sing
  3. John Madden for obvious reasons
