Is Gardner Minshew pushing Trevor Lawrence hard? His coach says it is an open competition!

Everyone thought Trevor Lawrence was just going to walk into Jacksonville and get handed the starting spot, but that is not the case. Gardner Minshew said it himself, Number 2 is not an option for him.
“I’ll say this man, in preparation for the competition, I haven’t taken a [expletive deleted] in weeks, because No. 2 isn’t an option for me,” Minshew said on the podcast, via Dov Kleiman. “No. 2 is not an option.”
Well Urban Meyer is starting to see the Minshew Magic himself, and has now made the starting spot an open competition.
“He’s earned my respect. I love that guy,” Meyer said of Minshew, via NFL.com. “He’s a warrior, competitor. He’s a fighter. I told him that. I just got great respect for Minshew. He brings it every day, every day.”
“Is there really a chance [Lawrence doesn’t start in Week 1]?,” pondered Meyer openly. “I think we’ll answer that as we get closer.”
Urban Meyer will not commit to Lawrence out the gate and I think it is the right move. Gardner Minshew should be put on display, because teams are going to need a quarterback around the league. Meyer should be displaying the heck out of Minshew in the preseason. He should be getting tons of reps, because at the end of the day, if he does stay in J-Ville or if he leaves, it will only make the team he lands on that much better.
Minshew is better than a lot of quarterbacks in the NFL right now, and I love that Meyer is giving him a legit chance to compete.
