The Comeback: Kewan Alfred, A Quad-City Steamwheelers Team Captain
The Comeback, By. Justin Kelm
Former Quad-City Steamwheelers defensive captain Kewan Alfred is back. Last season, the defensive end suffered an injury late in a game last season in the Steamwheelers season-ending Indoor Football League game. Alfred is a veteran of the Indoor game and is looking forward to 2020. Alfred is a native of Beaumont, Texas and was a pure terror on the field in High School. Alfred was a member of the Beaumont Central High School Jaguars. He then went on to play collegiately at Trinity Valley Community College and then Memphis.
Alfred has joined 4212 Sports Management based out of Houston. He will be playing this season with the Texas Mustangs of the Texas United Football Association based in Houston. This will allow Alfred to continue to keep in shape. 4212 is providing him with not only the opportunity to play the game he loves, but with the mental support as well. Alfred is a force and is ready. Founder John Fernandez is excited for him to come along. I spoke with Alfred this morning.
Why do you play?
I literally play for the love of the game simple as that. I remember my friend used to ask me Kewan if you were given a million dollars every year for the rest of your life would you still pursue football and my answer was always yes. That is because I’m chasing greatness not money don’t get me wrong I know my worth and feel like I should be paid as such but that’s not my WHY the WHY is to go down as one of the greats in any league I play in. I never make it to the NFL ok fine I want to be the greatest pass rusher in the CFL don’t make it there I want to go down as one of the best in the XFL. I had the same mind set playing in the IFL for 3 years.
What are your goals for the season?
My goals are simple I want to prove myself right. Show I’m still the same playmaker. I’m still strong I’m still fast and That the injury didn’t take away nothing from me but gave me a chance to add on to myself mentally. I want my play this season to gain attention from the higher ups like outdoor leagues and to end up on a XFL team roster before the season ends
