Louisiana Freshman football player Patrick Sanders died from COVID-19 at the age of 14

Patrick Sanders A 14 year old student athlete lost his fight with COVID-19 at the age of 14.

A Freshman high school student-athlete sick with the coronavirus died this week at the age of 14.

Patrick Sanders, 14, passed away last week at the hospital. Sanders was a 9th grade student at Baker High School and played on the football team.

Baker High football team is currently in quarantine for potential exposure, as well.

East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome called Patrick’s death “a heartbreaking loss.”

“Every death from this virus is one met with immense sorrow, especially the passing of a ninth grader from our community,” she said in a written statement. “At this point, every resident of our community has been impacted by COVID-19. This goes to show that even our youngest and most resilient loved ones are at risk. It is my hope that we can come together to prevent further loss.”
