Who is the NFL player you compare yourself the most to? Why is that?
There are 4 players I compare myself to Davante Adams, Keenan Allen, Calvin Ridley & Odell Beckham. Davante Adams & Keenan Allen are the two players that I mimic the most when it comes to releases off the line. I’m a former basketball player & they are as well, so I understand their IQ & the reasons for why they do certain releases on DBs. Now when it comes to route running & explosiveness that’s when Calvin Ridley & Odell Beckham game comes into par. I feel our body movements & breaks in & out of cuts are extremely similar.
What aspects of playing in the NFL do you find to be intriguing?
What I find most intriguing about playing in the NFL is the combination of mental preparation, competition, & team culture. Every week, you’re competing against elite talent, and the margin of error is incredibly small; which pushes you to stay sharp and execute at your best. Beyond that, being apart of a team where everyone is accountable, prepared, and committed to the same goal makes the process as rewarding as the performance on game day.
In what ways have you improved since last season?
I definitely improved physically by putting on more muscle, speed & route running. I also took a big leap when it comes to my IQ and better understanding and reading defenses as well as picking up on indicators from defensive players. I knew going into the offseason that I’m more physically gifted than a lot of the defenders & if I wanted to elevate my game to the next level it had to be with my IQ. I not only understand my job on the field but the receivers playing along side me as well. I started looking at the game from the QBs perspective & becoming more QB friendly. When it comes to zone coverage or knowing it’s 3rd down & that the defense would probably be sending pressure so that means my QBs clock is going to be sped up.
What is your favorite memory so far as a college football player?
Honestly, my favorite memory as a college football player is just bonding and spending time with my teammates this past season. We spent a great deal of time joking & clowning in the locker room and also those long bus rides we would just talk about life. Those memories & relationships I feel are most important and can’t be taken for granted & I cherish those memories for the rest of your life.
What is the most important thing you would like NFL scouts, coaches and general managers to know about you?
I want them to know that I’m a workaholic & I’m dependable. I’m not just talented, athletic and smart, I’m someone who takes preparation seriously and am very detail oriented, process information fast, and can be trusted to execute my role exactly as coached and encourage and support my teammates in their preparation as well. The things I feel separate me is I’m coachable, I love being coached hard, I want to know all the details. Mistakes don’t linger; the next snap gets my full confidence and attention. I understand that availability, consistency, and effort are currency in the league. Also, my upward trajectory or peak hasn’t been grazed yet. I’ve only been playing football for three years & I’ve learned so much about the game in a short amount of time. Also, I don’t have major wear & tear on my body and my body has developed without major injuries. I’m very athletic & want professional teams to see the potential, take a chance on me so I can continue to grow and develop.
