Former Mary Hardin Baylor Football Player James Marshall Shot and Killed in Fort Worth
James Lynn Marshall, a former standout football player at Texas A&M-Commerce/Mary Hardin Baylor, was shot and killed Sunday, June 15, in Fort Worth. He was 28.
According to Fort Worth police, officers responded to a call in the 3000 block of Forest Avenue, where Marshall was found in a backyard with gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives say the shooting followed a verbal altercation involving an unidentified suspect. No arrests have been made, and homicide detectives are actively investigating the case.
Marshall had an impressive football career, starting at Carthage High School where he totaled 252 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. He was also part of Carthage’s 2013 state championship team. His college football journey included time at Texas A&M-Commerce, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and Mt. San Antonio College in California.
A funeral service for Marshall is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Still Waters Cowboy Church in Carthage. Visitation will be held Friday, June 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
