Pittman’s Pocket: Two HBCU Standouts Shine at the 2025 Hula Bowl

The 2025 Hula Bowl showcased several standout performances, with two players from HBCUs making a significant impact.
James Burgess from Alabama State impressed with 3 tackles and 3 pass deflections. The recipient of the Arenas Williams Award, Burgess held his own against FBS talent from teams like Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina, solidifying his place among the game’s top performers. Alabama State Head Coach Eddie Robinson Jr. was also in attendance to witness his player’s strong performance.
FAMU’s Kendall Bohler also had a stellar outing, recording 3 tackles and 3 pass deflections. Bohler nearly intercepted a pass but just missed after making contact with the wide receiver during the attempt.
Both players showcased their skills at a high level, and I believe they’ve done enough to earn spots in major All-Star games like the Shriners or Senior Bowl.
