College of San Mateo Football Player Killed in Crash
The College of San Mateo football community is mourning the loss of freshman defensive back Ja’Marion “Pop” Grace, who was killed in a vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
Grace, 19, was a Fairfield native and graduate of Vanden High School. He was a freshman member of the College of San Mateo football team.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Highway 101 near Yerba Buena Road when the driver of a 2013 Ford Fusion lost control of the vehicle.
Grace was riding as a passenger when he was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.
The driver, also 19, survived the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A second passenger was also injured and received medical attention.
Grace’s death has left teammates, coaches, classmates and members of the College of San Mateo community mourning the loss of a young athlete whose life was tragically cut short.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
