What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
My younger brother Malachi. He was bigger and my parents were like he’s going to play in the NFL and at seven years old me and my mom would take him to practices and I thought I could do it. And that’s what got me into football to prove I was good enough to do it and be better than my brother and that’s my reason for playing football.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
High school I started out sophomore year thinking I would play varsity as a running back and I ended up playing quarterback in JV and was practicing with varsity one day and got called up, wearing green which is what JV wore, and varsity was in gray and one day during a practice coach came up to me and was wondering what number I wanted and he wanted me to get a gray jersey and play with varsity. When I was at Morgan State one game I started rotating in at safety and I wanted to show my teammates I can play, and I go out there and the ball gets snapped and I get a TFL and at Wayne State I got defensive player of the week in my conference for my senior night performance where I had 14 tackles, 10 solo, a TFL and a interception and the TFL and interception were both fourth down stops.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
Making it to the NFL and prove I can play at the highest level and that I can play with the guys up there and prove to my siblings that anything is possible with hard work and mental toughness.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Brian Branch, just because I got to train with him, with my DB coach and I like his game and versatility.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My younger brothers Malachi and Asher, Asher because I want to be a great older brother and role model and be someone he can look up to and Malachi because I want him to be better than me at everything and get him to push the needle to be better than I am.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
3-3-5 stack, 3 down lineman, 3 linebackers and 5 defensive backs although we ran 6 defensive backs at Wayne State. It gives you a good stack and I love having the amount of DB’s you get on the field with this defense.
What should we know about Kaleb Coleman the person?
I’m a real chill, laid back guy, humble and I’m always looking to improve myself whether it’s football, my faith, or just knowledge to help my siblings, I feel God put me on this earth to help people however that may be through fitness, coaching or faith, I feel I’m on this earth to help people.
What stands out about your film the most?
How I fly around the field, my ability to track the ball and my transitions out of my breaks or going to tackle a running back out of the post things of that nature.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I handle things chin up and chest out and with hard work like film study or practice more and in life just work harder to try to get a different outcome.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A professional. Someone who is going to come in and take care of business. Someone who loves the game and wants to make the players around him better and do his job.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
Competing, like we are fortunate enough to play a child’s game and fly around and have fun and practices are one of my favorite things.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Carlvainsky Decius, nicknamed the Haitian Sensation, he’s coming out this year also and Carl is a dog and if I was filling out a team Carl is on it.
