An Early Look At The Top 2025 NFL Draft Quarterbacks

While the college football season and NFL schedule have just started, it is not too early to take a look at some of the top names that could potentially headline the 2025 NFL Draft class at the quarterback position.

This year there were six quarterbacks drafted within the first dozen picks, including the first three picks. Although most of these potential future stars have had their share of struggles, as most would expect, their future still looks promising.

Next year’s draft class doesn’t appear as star-studded as the 2024 group, but it still has a quartet of ball slingers capable of making an impact at the next level.

Shedeur Sanders – Colorado Buffalos

There is a lot more to Sanders’ game than just being the son of “Prime Time”. One of the purest throwers in the college game, Sanders can dissect the defense with short yardage throws or launch it down field with what looks to be minimal effort. Although the spotlight shines brighter on his teammate Travis Hunter, who is arguably a lock for the first overall pick, Sanders should find himself among the top three quarterback names called in the 2025 Draft class. After putting together a 23-3 record during his two seasons with the Jackson State Tigers, Sanders has struggled to mirror that success with the Buffalos, going 4-7 last season. If Sanders can improve his running game, and is given proper protection, something that has been lacking at Buffalo, he could thrive in a play-action offensive system.

Projected Team – Miami Dolphins

Cam Ward – Miami Hurricanes

Sitting in the lower half of the top ten rankings, the Hurricanes are led by a calm, yet electrifying young quarterback. Unlike others on this list, Ward didn’t start his collegiate career as a much sought-after recruit, starting his NCAA journey at The University of Incarnate Word, a small Div. I school in Texas. After playing sparingly during his freshman season, Ward impressed the Washington State Cougars coaches enough during his sophomore year to warrant a transfer to the West Coast. Following his two years with the Cougars, Ward initially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft but withdrew his name with the intent of improving his stock while playing with the Hurricanes. Weighing in at 6’2”, 220lbs, Ward has the size and speed to be a dual-threat, with poise in the pocket and quickness that can help him gain yardage on his own.

Projected Team – New York Giants

Carson Beck – Georgia Bulldogs

In previous years, Georgia’s early season loss to Alabama would have likely taken them out of the conversation for a championship bid. However now that the postseason has expanded the number of teams, the loss doesn’t necessarily hurt the Bulldogs or Beck as much as it once could have, especially considering how he managed to guide a comeback attempt. While his two National Championships came riding the bench, Beck did post an impressive 13-1 record last season, throwing for just under 4,000 yards and 28 total touchdowns. Whereas others may be more athletic or stronger, Beck’s pinpoint accuracy and ability to read the defense should help him at the next level.

Projected Team – Las Vegas Raiders

Quinn Ewers – Texas Longhorns

After taking just two snaps at Ohio State during his freshman season, Ewers became the Longhorns starting QB from day one of the 2022 season. Posessing a quick release, poise in the pocket and ability to read the game, Ewers is also armed with the ability to sling the ball through a tight window or down the field. What makes Ewers exciting isn’t just his physical skills, but also his fearless approach to the game, a trait that helps him, but can also hurt him. While improving his accuracy, and footwork will be needed in order to succeed at the NFL level, Ewers has the ability to be a franchise quarterback.

Projected Team – Tennessee Titans

Although the 2025 NFL Draft is seven months away, the projected draft order, especially when it comes down to the quarterback position is a hot topic, especially when it comes to NFL betting markets. While there is no standout favorite, as there was last season when Caleb Williams was the safe bet for the number one overall pick, the aforementioned four quarterbacks are the odds on favorites to hear their names called at some point in the first round. With plenty of games left on the NCAA schedule and the uncertainty of many NFL quarterbacks, the order of which these much heralded players is likely to fluctuate over the next few months, making the journey to the NFL equally as exciting for the player as it is for their fanbase.
