Pittman’s Pocket: Freshman Impact: HBCU Coaches Leaning on Young Talent in 2024 Season
This could be a breakthrough year for freshman players in HBCU football, as more coaches appear eager to integrate these young talents into their game plans early in the season. At Pittman’s Pocket and NFL Draft Diamonds, we are keeping a close eye on three standout freshmen who are set to make waves in their Week 2 matchups.
Nate Blount, Jackson State
Running back Nate Blount from Jackson State is expected to get some carries in their upcoming game against Lane College. Blount has shown promise, and his involvement in the offense could provide a spark for Jackson State as they look to build on their early-season momentum.
Travis Terrell Jr., Jackson State
Another freshman to watch from Jackson State is Travis Terrell Jr., who has been an explosive addition to the team. Terrell will continue to shoulder much of the workload alongside Ahmad Miller, especially as key players Irv and JD recover from injuries. His performance will be crucial in maintaining Jackson State’s offensive rhythm.
Bo Summerset, Florida A&M (FAMU)
Bo Summerset from Florida A&M is gearing up for his debut against the Miami Hurricanes—a formidable opponent for any freshman. Summerset will have his hands full, but his debut presents an exciting opportunity to showcase his potential against a top-tier team.
As we head into the first four weeks of the season, it’s encouraging to see HBCU coaches trusting and empowering their freshmen on the field. This trend not only benefits the individual players but also contributes to the overall growth and competitiveness of HBCU football. Great job, coaches, and here’s to seeing more young talent shine!
