Pittman’s Pocket: Weekend College Football Recap: Clark Atlanta Triumphs, Grambling Dominates, FAMU Challenges Troy
This past weekend brought thrilling college football action, showcasing standout performances across several HBCU teams.
Clark Atlanta University pulled off a significant win against Bethune-Cookman University. Clark Atlanta’s quarterback, David Wright, led the charge, completing 30 of 49 passes for 374 yards, including four touchdowns and one interception. On the opposing side, Bethune-Cookman’s Cam’Ron Ransom had an impressive game as well, going 22 for 31 with 383 passing yards, tossing three touchdowns, and running for another. Darnell Deas contributed a highlight play, catching a stunning 70-yard touchdown pass.
Meanwhile, Florida A&M University (FAMU) took on Troy, giving the Trojans a much harder time than expected. Wide receiver Jamari Gassett is proving to be the next big star for the Rattlers, pulling in 10 receptions for 141 yards. On the defensive side, James Ash and David Westmoreland caused disruption throughout the game, applying pressure that helped keep FAMU competitive.
Elsewhere in the HBCU landscape, several players made their mark: J’Mari Taylor from North Carolina Central, Elijah Burris from Hampton, Jaden Sutton from Delaware State, and Eden James from Howard all delivered standout performances for their respective programs.
Grambling State University dominated Jackson State University, with Joanes Fortillien putting on a show. Fortillien caught three passes for 91 yards, averaging 30.3 yards per catch, including a touchdown, further establishing himself as a key target for the Tigers.
