Pittman’s Pocket: HBCU Players who had a Great Early Week 1 Performance

Week 1 kicked off with some standout performances in last night’s FBS matchups.

Kenny Gallop from Howard University impressed despite Howard’s 44-7 loss to Rutgers. Gallop recorded 14 tackles, including 8 solo stops and half a tackle for loss.

Carson Hinton also shined for Howard, playing a crucial role in containing Rutgers’ receivers throughout the night. He tallied 4 tackles, 2 of which were solo.

Jacobian Morgan put up a solid effort against ULM, completing 23 of 28 passes for 228 yards with a touchdown and an interception. There’s room for Morgan to do even more, and we’re excited to see it.

Eden James was responsible for Howard’s lone touchdown, rushing 8 times for 4.1 yards per carry. Despite limited space, James made the most of his opportunities, continuing to prove he’s NFL-ready.

Joanes Fortilien of Jackson State made an impact with 2 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown, while his teammate Marvin Landry added 4 receptions for 51 yards.

Geoffrey McKelton from Alcorn State had a standout night in a tough game against UAB, posting 9 tackles (6 solo), a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. Markel McLaurin also contributed with 6 tackles (5 solo), a tackle for loss, and an interception.

Ahmad Miller from Jackson State rushed 9 times for 46 yards, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

HBCU fans, there’s still plenty of action left this week!
