Player Summary:

A two-year edge rusher who has been in and out of the starting lineup for Utah after making the change from the WR position in 2022. Toole, listed at 6’3 250 lbs. is a physical edge rusher with a long lean build whose motor pops out on tape. Coming off the edge in a 4-3 front, he is stout at the POA in the run game showing good strength and adequate lateral movement when in pursuit of the ball carrier. O’Toole causes physical mismatches against TEs often using the bull rush technique to overpower opponents. O’Toole does a solid job of replacing and squeezing staying square to the LOS on the backside of run plays. His athleticism and strength also allow him to be a solid defender when lined up against offensive tackles. He shows good grip strength at the POA, frequently overpowering tight ends and violently using his hands against Offensive Tackles. O’Toole uses his hands violently, displaying various techniques when pass rushing. O’Toole’s Athleticism is put on full display on all downs with Utah also using him in underneath coverage. He shows above-average speed for the position. His motor, and physicality are hard to ignore, even with the lack of experience at the position. An area of improvement for O’Toole would be continuing to stay firm and hold the LOS when stunting toward the interior; he sometimes loses power when slanting inside the tackles and gets lost in traffic. O’Toole is not a player who will use the spin move or finesse his way to the quarterback. He shows he is comfortable in an upright two-point stance pinning his ears back and rushing the QB.

At 6 ‘3 250, he will continue to grow into the position at the next level. His size, motor and physicality will be hard to ignore when considering him as a next-level prospect.

Scheme Fit:

4-3 Defense

Power Statement:

O’Toole will need to continue to develop at the position but has the raw athleticism and size that can’t be ignored. He adds value on special teams and has the speed to effectively drop into coverage.
