Yesterday, we broke down the greatest NFL head coach ever, determining the win-loss records, championships, team performance and much more. When I was breaking it down, I said man I wonder who the worst coach was ever when it comes to wins-losses and other information and I came up with a list of four coaches who did not do well as a head coach.

Bert Bell – As head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers from 1936-1941, Bell compiled a dismal 10-46-2 record. His tenure is often cited due to his poor winning percentage.

David Shula – Coaching the Cincinnati Bengals from 1992 to 1996, Shula had a 19-52 record. His tenure is notable because he was unable to replicate the success of his father, Don Shula, one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.

Marty Mornhinweg – During his time with the Detroit Lions from 2001-2002, Mornhinweg amassed a 5-27 record. His decisions, such as electing to kick off in overtime after winning the coin toss, have been widely criticized.

Rod Marinelli – Also with the Detroit Lions, Marinelli coached the team to an 0-16 record in 2008, the first winless 16-game season in NFL history. His overall record with the Lions from 2006-2008 was 10-38.

These coaches are often brought up in discussions due to their poor records, controversial decisions, or the particularly challenging situations they faced. However, it’s essential to consider the context and constraints each coach faced when evaluating their careers.
