Player Summary:

Redshirt Senior from Phoenix, Arizona. A highly touted recruit out of Pinnacle HS, he was the consensus No.1 Ranked QB in the 2019 class with over 11,000 career pass yds and 116 pass TD’s. Originally signed to play at Oklahoma under HC Lincoln Riley, transferring out after a QB competition and his coach’s departure to USC. Rattler has a smaller frame with below average height and marginal weight. He displays excellent AA, good lateral quickness, solid COD, and  above-average foot speed for the position. Good quick over the top throwing motion allows him to attack short/intermediate areas of the field with very good accuracy, doing so with solid timing allows him to place the ball where it does not hinder his WR from getting upfield. He has shown the ability to find throwing lanes by changing his release or manipulating the DL with pump fakes, making up for his shorter stature. Adequate on anticipation throws (hooks, comebacks, pivot/whips), he keys in on his WR’s break, relying on his above-average arm strength to get the ball to his target on time, the hitch prior to his release allows DB’s time to close on the ball. He is at his best when he is outside the pocket, utilizing his athleticism while scanning his options down field whether it be designed rollouts or off-schedule scramble plays. He has the rare ability to make strong accurate throws when moving left and right without needing to completely reset his feet, he accomplishes this by squaring up his shoulders with consistency prior to his release. Below average accuracy on throw’s of 20+ yds due to not stepping into his throws as well as short arming is follow through. Marginal pre-snap, he can improve on helping his O-Line by putting more emphasis on the box player’s alignment and developing stronger communication. Below-average feel for pocket vs 5 and 6 man pressures, lacks vision balance to pick up looping EDGE/ILB’s often leading to negative plays. His mechanics are solid, but can be refined needing work on his footwork in his drop and getting more consistent with his release.

Power Statement

Rattler’s stock is certain to rise through the All-Star Game season. He has eye popping arm strength and AA that most QB’s do not have. His deficiencies are extremely coachable, and having traits you simply cannot teach surely will welcome some attention from NFL decision makers as a developmental guy with potential to start one day.
