Player Summary:
Redshirt Senior from Waynesboro, Mississippi. Originally signed to play at Ole Miss before transferring prior to the 2022 season. He had a solid career at Wayne County HS, he lettered 3 times and contributed towards a state championship run. Marginal height, solid weight, with ordinary length, and above-average AA. He plays with good initial burst, lateral quickness, solid play speed, adequate COD, and is nimble on his feet. Efficient footwork and initial quickness allow him to get out of his 3 pt stance fluidly with good acceleration and effective pad level. Solid UOH, he has good accuracy and force in his initial strike to stalemate drive blocks from the OL. Good gap integrity vs zone run concepts from the playside as well as the backside. Creates penetration on the frontside by winning with initial burst, leg drive, superior leverage, and converting his speed to strength. He has excellent understanding of what the offense is trying to do, he inserts himself in the backside A gap, flowing with the OL, he uses his broad body mass and AA to ensure there cannot be any cutback attempts. Solid pass rush plan, he primarily creates pressure by delivering a strong double strike to the chest, using his power and leverage to force the OL into an anchor technique which takes operating room away from the QB. Can be an asset in the twist game, he uses solid bend and good lateral quickness to take a tight path to his crasher, while utilizing finesse moves with his hands to avoid an attacking OL. Solid pursuit, he takes effective angles in the open field and has shown the ability to track down ball carriers. Marginal vs gap scheme concepts, he struggles to pair pulling OL with replacing down blockers when keying the run, using the same shoulder dip technique he does vs reach blocks leading to him getting washed out in the backside, opening up a large hole for the RB.
Scheme Fit:
1-3 tech in one gap 4-3
Power Statement:
Bivens is a solid run defender who brings value as a pass rusher as well. He can create opportunities for other’s by eating double teams and creating penetration up the middle of the pocket. Needs to improve his run fits vs gap scheme concepts and locating/finishing the ball carrier once shedding an OL.
