Player Summary:
Jabbar Muhammad is a 4th year junior at the University of Washington after spending his previous 3 collegiate years at Oklahoma State. Muhammad is a good Man corner as he shows good Off & Bail technique, plays with overall good balance in coverage, possesses good hip fluidity to turn and run, good transition quickness in space and overall good ball skills to find ball downfield and get his head around to make a play on the ball. He also displays good route rec and overall IQ in Man to feel leverage well and remain balanced at breakpoints. Muhammad is solid in Zone overall as he shows good match/mirror ability passing off Zones on short/intermediate routes and overall solid route rec ability as well. Muhammad shows good ability in run support as well, he possesses good ability to leverage runs coming downhill and solid tackling ability in space. Standing 5’9 Muhammad possesses marginal height/wingspan for his position and lacks physicality, he shows marginal ability at LOS as he doesn’t look to jam or get hands on opponents allowing free releases. Muhammad’s long speed is questionable as well as it looks adequate in coverage & chasing down plays in run support. Although solid in Zone, he lacks discipline to get depth on deep concepts and ability to manipulate/bait opposing QB’s. He does struggle getting off blocks on perimeter in run support as well and his tackling technique is a bit sloppy, pad level gets high and doesn’t wrap up often.
Scheme Fit:
Nickel in a Man defensive scheme.
Power Statement:
Jabbar Muhammad’s strength is without a doubt Man coverage because of his match/mirror and route rec ability and will likely be designated to nickel because of his size. With his speed being about average it’ll be tough for Muhammad to make an impact on special teams, for him to stick on a roster and contribute to a team he will need to continue to develop his football IQ and improve his tackling technique in run support.
