Player Summary:
Eli Cox is a 5th year Senior for the Kentucky Wildcats and is coming off a good campaign in 2022 where he earned Outland Trophy Watch list honors and was the recipient of the Frank G. Ham Society of Character award as well. He possesses elite size and frame for an interior lineman as well as very good physical strength to move bodies at POA. He’s overall very good in pass pro as he plays with good hand technique and footwork to stay balanced vs speed & power and very good anchor ability deep in pass set vs bull rushes. Cox displays overall good run blocking ability which starts with his strength at POA to generate leverage, he has good footwork & overall solid hand technique at 1st level, and with his good athleticism, he shows good ability to get to 2nd level and work as a puller. Cox also shows a good ability to locate at the 2nd level and in space as well. Overall Cox is good at sustaining blocks as a run blocker as well. Cox does struggle to keep his head up and pick up stunts/twists/delayed blitzes, but overall adequate awareness in that area. Possesses adequate ability to reach and combo blocks in Zone, struggles to get lateral on reach blocks, and chips effectively on combo blocks when working to 2nd level. Displays adequate hand technique and footwork at 2nd level in space, hands tend to get wide and sloppy. Cox also possesses adequate ability to finish blocks and doesn’t seem to play with edge.
Scheme Fit:
OC in a Gap concept run scheme.
Power Statement:
Eli Cox possesses a pro body type and is an exceptional blocker in pass pro with his technique and anchor ability, his technique as a run blocker is a little sloppy at the 2nd level but with time that will improve. Cox is also a good athlete who is fluid and space and can get to 2nd level and move in space well. He is a very solid prospect, and I believe he has starting potential at the next level.
