Player Summary:

Grad transfer from Bucknell. Two-year starter at Bucknell, first year starter at Rhode Island. Started at “star” position in 2021 for Bucknell before transitioning to free safety. Older brother Bryce played DB at Northwestern. Possesses above-average size for the position. Somewhat slender frame could add 5-10 pounds. Long-limbed, particularly in the arms. Good speed allows for centerfield responsibilities and true sideline-to-sideline potential. Is able to use speed to come up from free safety position and make plays at and behind the LOS. Has displayed good ball skills with four interceptions in 2022. Above-average size allows him to be a factor in both the pass and run games, and as a pass rusher, adding versatility to his game. Lines up on both sides of the defense, adding to his positional versatility. Solid tackler with good fundamentals; does well to break down and wrap up to ensure the tackle. Good speed and long strides allow him to stay in receivers pocket down field and on crossing routes. Shows good FBI and ability to quickly diagnose and react to plays in front of him, particularly in the run game. Natural inclination to come up and make a play can work against him; has a tendency to bite hard on play-action and not be in position to provide coverage help. Somewhat stiff lower body limits COD ability. Has not displayed much in the way of man coverage ability; played primarily in zone coverage at Bucknell. Physical traits would suggest ability in press coverage, but skill in this area has not been shown.

Scheme Fit:

Box safety allowed to attack line of scrimmage and occasionally rush passer

Power Statement:

Big, athletic, fast safety who’s at his best when allowed to react to play in front of him and go get the ball carrier
