Player Summary:

Redshirt Senior from Norfolk, Virginia. A 4 star prospect ranked in the top 100 (ESPN, Rivals) who played both ways at Maury high school. Good height, marginal weight, arm length, and very good hand size. Good AA, with very good lateral quickness, COD, above-average foot speed, solid acceleration, and hip fluidity. Solid at the LOS, marginal arm length impacts his jam ability, good timing when opening his hips allows him to accelerate and stay in phase with the WR. Good taking away underneath routes, uses very good COD and anticipation driving hard with a good path to get in phase with In/Out’s. Very good lateral quickness and solid acceleration allows him to keep his cushion vs vertical routes using both zone and man technique. Shows good understanding for hi-lo concepts as a flat defender, takes away the middle ground keeping his eyes on the QB ready to make a play in both directions. Solid blitzer, very good timing the snap and applying pressure to the QB. Marginal finishing ability in the backfield, does not gather himself when blitzing at a high velocity. Adequate in run support, he demonstrates good gap integrity by keeping contain and forcing runs back inside. Marginal tackler, primarily attempts to drive his hat through the lower body of the ball carrier with a marginal wrap up and poor eye position leading to missed tackles. Marginal ball skills, he is consistently in good position but does not get his head around to find the ball or get his hands in an area where he can play through the receiver’s. Below-average arm length impacts his ability to make a play when trailing routes that cross the field.

Scheme Fit:

CB in Cover-3 system

Power Statement:

Jones can be trusted to play man and zone coverage. He knows where he needs to be as a run defender, refining his tackling form where he can get his eyes on the ball carrier would benefit him. Very good AA makes up for his length.
