Player Summary:
6’0”, 235-pound ILB with moderate height/weight measurements, a twitchy lower half, and a durable frame and build. A fourth-year senior who spent the first three years of his college career at Oklahoma State. Became a full-time starter for the Cowboys during the 2022 campaign and earned himself a spot on the All-Big-12 Second Team. Transferred to USC following the 2022 season. Instinctual player with a strong combination of intelligence, athleticism, and physicality. Decisive decision-maker who trusts his eyes and boasts a quick trigger & intriguing reactionary athleticism. Possesses great read & react ability – a byproduct of sharp vision and keen spatial & positional awareness. Displays proficient athleticism, range, and lateral mobility to cover the field from sideline to sideline. Has a high motor and internal drive to chase down plays from the backside or scrape down the LOS force ball carriers to the sideline. Competent run defender in the trenches; Flashes consistent toughness and a willingness to put his body to create traffic in the interior. Secure tackler in tight and open spaces; Produced impressive tackling numbers and TFL production in his lone season as a starter at the P5 level. Decent cover LB who appears more comfortable dropping into zone coverage than man coverage. Low ball production but uses capable ball skills to make a play on the ball when presented with the opportunity. Has shown some play strength, hand use, and leverage concerns at the POA against offensive linemen in one-on-one situations. Not the biggest ILB you’ll find, but makes up for size & strength deficiencies with a tough play style and quality effort. Did not rush the passer much at Oklahoma State, so his pass-rushing upside remains questionable. Still, he should cement himself as one of the top linebackers in the Pac-12 as USC’s starting MIKE in 2023.
Scheme Fit:
Projects best as MIKE or WILL LB in a 4-3 defense.
Power Statement:
Instinctual, sideline-to-sideline ILB with notable reactionary athleticism, vision, and tackling (and TFL) production.
