Player Summary:
rSr. Will be playing in his second season since tearing his ACL and following up a career season at that. He possesses a slightly leaner but cut frame for his position. Currently in the 3-3-5 Defense, he’s lined up as DE/Edge in 3 point and standing stance, as well as OLB/ILB throughout his tenure. He excels with good instincts and awareness, reacting immediately after the snap to attack the run. He displays good UOH when combating run blocks and halting pulls. He has good play recognition, reacting immediately, playing with solid intensity and effort, bursting downhill to tackle running backs or alter their path. He displays FBI and will correct teammates pre-snap, and when in coverage is very aware of his physical limits and adjusts by playing looser on coverage. He also has shown to have quick feet and will play to the whistle.
Khalid’s COD, and lateral movement are adequate, and allow for successful cutbacks as he is too anxious and does not string the back, allowing edge contain exposure for them to attack. His lack of functional strength limits his collision to stalemates and inhibits his ability to immediately fight off blocks. In Pass rush this also shows as he has poor twitch when trying to arc the tackle leaving him to depend on his footwork and UOH, w/out the upper body strength, agility, flexibility, explosiveness or speed to work around the blocker(s). In Man coverage, he was limited to RB’s out of the backfield, and depended too much on a loose cushion, often one juke would be enough to break a play open. In Zone coverage he struggled, inefficiently and sloppily maneuvering from one area to the other efficiently. He was not dependable when asked to tackle in space with his physical restrictions.
Scheme Fit:
4-3 SAM linebacker/If he bulks and his confidence and healing with his knee continues to progress, then 4-3 End or Edge
Power Statement:
Khalid is an athlete that will have several positions available for him to challenge at the next level. Expect a return to his 2020 and early 2021 form for his physical abilities after his second year of recovery.
