Player Summary:
Redshirt Senior from Tampa, Florida. He originally played at a JUCO, transferring to Hawaii, and then finding a home at Fresno St. Solid height, marginal weight, with solid AA. Good acceleration, COD, lateral quickness, with above average fluidity in his hips, and adequate balance. Without a measurement he looks to be playing with below-average arm length. Solid at the LOS, he is comfortable playing jam vs bigger body types using a jump technique extending his arms into WR’s chest. Good timing opening his hips to get in phase taking away vertical routes. He can be trusted to impact speed out’s using good leg drive to get in phase with the WR forcing the QB to go elsewhere with the ball. Good range in Zone coverage as a flat defender showing very good understanding for “high low” concepts. Good ball skills, you can trust him to come down with INT’s when the opportunity presents itself, he is solid matching his hands to the WR’s when he cannot get his head around. He is explosive in space with the ball in his hand getting upfield with good acceleration and vision. Above-average blitzing CB, very good timing the snap paired with good block shedding ability allows him to impact run and pass plays in the backfield. Very good competitive toughness, plays physical man to man vs TE’s and RB’s, plays mental games with bigger opponents trying to impact their level of play. Adequate in run support, he understands what gap is his responsibility and fills it quickly. Marginal open field tackler because he consistently lunges or dives at the feet of the ball carrier leaving his eyes in poor position and often recording a missed tackle. Marginal vs slants and in’s due to being easily manipulated when the WR widens his angle at the stem of his route.
Scheme Fit:
Outside CB in Man to Man or Cover 2 Scheme
Power Statement:
Lockridge plays above-average man coverage using solid AA and good physicality to match opponents with more size. He can improve on leg drive vs shallow in breaking routes and open field tackling technique. It will be interesting to see his measurements in the spring and how it could impact his draft stock.
