Player Summary:

Redshirt Senior from Mentor, Ohio. He was a top 10 OG across different recruiting platforms in 2019. Good height, and marginal weight. He has good AA, solid initial quickness, COD, with good lateral quickness, adequate ankle flexion, and marginal balance. He plays with very good play speed when he is in space, often looking faster than his projected 40 time. Solid as a 2nd level blocker when he is asked to execute combo blocks, or get to the ILB without much contact. He is good at positioning himself vs ILB’s with solid AA, sealing off the defender from the designed run using good rotational force to create a seam. Very good when asked to pull, gets out of his stance efficiently with above-average lateral quickness to execute the block using good striking accuracy to create push for the RB. He shows very good control while on the move not having to slow down much to be effective as a lead blocker. Can be trusted in pass pro due to good lateral quickness and mental processing. He has excellent vision and balance which allows him to diagnose and pickup twists/stunts as well as blitzing 2nd level defenders, doing so with accuracy delivering a strong double punch when catching the looper/blitzer. He has good awareness, keeping his head on a swivel throughout plays when there are 4 rushers, making smart decisions on which OL he should help. Solid vs power rush when he does not play with a staggered base, uses solid strength with his upper body to extend in his anchor and hold his ground. Creates marginal push at the POA due to high pad level out of his stance and playing with his weight forward losing strength in the lower body. His striking as a run blocker is marginal, he often lunges at defenders when trying to execute blocks.

Scheme Fit:

C in a gap scheme  where he can pull or down block.

Power Statement:

Samac is a good athlete with plenty of playing experience at the BIG 10 level. He excels in space as a lead blocker which he can improve on by keeping good leverage out of his stance and keeping his weight under him when trying to move his assignment.
