Player Summary:

5th year Senior. Possesses a very good release off the LOS, quick and explosive off the snap with little wasted movement. Shows good stem ability as a route runner, working into defenders well to set up lanes for release point. Has very good short area quickness and separation ability. Overall, very sudden and quick in and out of breaks to be able to create good separation. Displays good hands in space and in traffic when the ball is placed within his frame, looking the ball in well and showing he can maintain possession in traffic. Shows good ability to track the ball downfield and work his way back well if needed. Possesses overall solid speed, not much of a burner but can get vertical and run pretty well, quicker than fast. Shows good ability to make defenders miss after the catch, being sudden in his movements and displaying good lateral agility to plant and go. Size is the biggest and obvious weakness. Does not possess the ideal height for his position, having a marginal wingspan/catch radius. Struggles to play bigger than his frame, shows marginal ability to go up and get it on 50/50 balls as well as adjusting and securing balls that are thrown outside his frame. Very marginal blocking ability in run concepts, not good at sustaining and sealing blocks, especially vs bigger corners. Possesses overall poor physical strength. Doesn’t play physical in coverage to gain leverage and after the catch as well, not going to force missed tackles by running through them.

Scheme Fit:

Slot in a heavy west coast spread offensive scheme.

Power Statement:

Translates best as a slot at the next level. Doesn’t have the versatility to play outside in an NFL offense, but possesses the skill set to run sweeps as well as return kicks. I believe Maddox is good enough to provide good competition in training camps with his best chance to make a roster or practice squad early with his return ability. If put in a system that fits his strengths, he could see some success and production as a depth/rotation piece on a roster.
