NFL should have more Veteran Combines throughout the season; Our rule proposal
NFL teams have been proposing some dumb new rules, so let NFL Draft Diamonds propose a smart one now.
How about holding 5 veteran workouts throughout the year?
NFL teams look to bring in players all the time, and they are constantly looking for players, but some players do not have the resources or help pushing them to make it.
So why not have 5 veteran combines during the season?
NFL teams go to NCAA games but there are weeks they could go to a Combine event. Listen to my idea before you shoot it down.
Let’s say Auburn/Alabama are expected to play, we know many NFL scouts will be headed to that game. So the day before run a Veteran Combine in that city, at their stadium?
Invite players the same way you did for this event. Make it 200 players, rather than a 100.
Matt Birk said he received over 2,000 applications and had to turn away some close friends, some who even went through the trouble of calling him personally to complain.
He joined a group of current and former NFL personnel executives who helped whittle down the pool to a manageable number. So why cannot they do it again?
Don’t make the players pay, just make them get to the event on their own. Basically a huge pro day, and only for Veterans. This could help guys get signed who may have been injured or was released at the final roster cuts.
There has to be a better way to help this kids get a second shot, especially if you do not want a developmental league.
