In today’s world Social Media has taken over as our youth’s way to express themselves. While it is great our youth have a life, let’s not forget that other people have social media accounts as well.
The prospect tweeted some lyrics of a song, but if you read a tweet that said:
“Poppin Mollys, I’m sweatin” and that’s it what do you think a person will assume?
At NFL Draft Diamonds we try to be a resource for small schoolers, and we offer guidance to some because let’s face it NO one else is.
As a small school football player you are already fighting an uphill battle so posting a picture to your Facebook account showing you blowing smoke out of your mouth or, tweeting lyrics of a song that say “Poppin Molly’s I’m sweatin” can be misinterpreted by older generations.
While future NFL players feel they don’t have a following, they are wrong. Did you know there are over 40 scouts in the NFL on twitter? That includes personnel, coaches and even owners.
So everything you post is reviewed, and looked at more than it ever was before in the past. Look at the Desean Jackson case for example, a player that is coming off of his best year in a while was cut because of rumors he was affiliated with gangs in California.
There have been numerous other cases of players dropping to the later rounds of the draft or turning into a priority free agent because of off the field issues.
So here is an overview:
When you log onto your social media accounts, think of posting whatever you post on a billboard in front of the White House, where your wife or girlfriend, mother, grandmother and your boss will all be watching and reading it.
If it is not good enough to do that, then Do Not Post It.
Second, if you have a twitter do not post lyrics of songs that talk about drugs, even if you think the people don ‘t know what your talking about.
It is simple, last rule; If you want to post something on twitter, post videos of you working your tail off. Post videos of you putting in work. Post quotes from the Bible. Shoot, post pictures of your family, because if you do not make it to the next level, at least you will know YOU yourself did not kill your dream.
