Formations Fantasy Football Review: New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have two of the most coveted players in all of fantasy football: Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham. Let’s take a look at other players who can help your fantasy team along with someone to potentially avoid.

Star: Pierre Thomas (RB)

13 Stats: 147 carries-549 yards-2 TDs, 77 catches-513 yards-3 TDs

Why He’s a Star: It seems as if New Orleans has tried to replace Pierre Thomas with a variety of backs throughout the years, and he has outlasted all of them. While he is not a candidate to rush for 1,000 yards, his PPR stats are off the chart. Those alone make Pierre Thomas a potential RB2.

Avoid: Marques Colston (WR)

13 Stats: 75 catches-943 yards-5 TDs

Why to Avoid: Colston is still a very good receiver. Colston still has Drew Brees throwing to him. However, Colston is in an offense that has many other targets including Jimmy Graham, Kenny Stills, and Brandin Cooks. I still expect Marques Colston to be productive, but only at the level of a WR3.

Sleeper: Brandin Cooks (WR)

Why He’s A Sleeper: Even though Cooks is only one of many options for Brees, he figures to fit right in with the Saints. The rookie is very fast and should instantly play in all of New Orleans three WR sets. Cooks is worth a stash on your bench. He may come in handy during your playoff push.

IDP to Watch: Cameron Jordan (DL)

13 Stats: 47 tackles-11 assists-12.5 sacks

Why: Cameron Jordan really started to excel in 2013. He is a great fit in New Orleans defensive scheme. There’s no reason to expect anything less than the numbers posted last year. It’s possible Jordan could accumulate 15 sacks this year making him a high-end DL1.
