If Dolphins lose Brent Grimes they need to target Sam Shields
The state of the Miami Dolphins is about as bad as the Cleveland Browns right now, but if the team loses it’s Pro-Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes in free agency it will hurt. The only thing that could ease the pain a little for Dolphins fans, who have more than enough money to sign Grimes and others, would be to sign former Sarasota, Florida native Sam Shields.
Shields knows a thing or two about Miami, since he did play his college ball at the “U”. During his final season with the Hurricanes, Shields switched positions from wide receiver to cornerback. He received the Nich Chickillo most improved player award at Miami’s award banquet. Shields has turned into a pretty impressive NFL starter for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are not going to want to lose Shields but the Dolphins could definitely use the long corner.
If the Dolphins were smart they would re-sign Brent Grimes and still try to sign Shields for the opposite corner. Last year the Dolphins corners not named Grimes were pretty horrendous. This would be a huge upgrade on the Dolphins defense.
