Well, it looks like the Combine is closely approaching and you know what that means, people will be talking about running times, jumping ability and strength. Well here are five NFL Combine records that could be in jeopardy this year:
The 40 yard dash – While I honestly cannot believe anyone beating the 4.24 this year, a few guys you will want to keep an eye on are Jeff Janis the wide receiver from Saginaw Valley State, who can burn it up on the track and Albert Wilson from Georgia State. Both of these wide outs are going to be stupid fast.
Bench Press – Hitting 49 reps is going to be hard, but it can be done. I remember Stephen Paea hitting that mark, because it was very impressive. 49 is quite the number when you look at benching 225 pounds, but I could see a guy like Justin Ellis throwing up quite a bit. Ellis has really come on lately, the former Louisiana Tech NT is as strong as an ox.
Broad Jump – Last year Jamie Collins jumped an 11’7 which was enough for the record, this year I could see some kids taking this category. Pierre Desir of Lindenwood will have a very good broad jump. The lanky 6’1 corner should be over 11 at the Combine. With all the tall receivers in this draft class, I would be surprised if we don’t see this record get broken.
Vertical Jump - Gerald Sensabaugh once jumped a 46 inch vertical, which is insane. I don’t know if this group will be able to break this number, but there are some solid small guys that have springs. Keep an eye on Reggie Jordan the tight end from Missouri Western. The kid has hops, and you can see it in his film. He might be a huge sleeper in this event.
3 Cone Drill - The fastest 3 cone drill over the past several years was Jeff Maehl of Oregon who ran a 6.42. I think this record could be broken as well. I will be interesting to see how DeAnthony Thomas does in this drill, because the guy can cut on a dime, he might be one to watch break this record.Do you follow the NFL Draft?
