What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
Probably my brothers. When I was younger, my two older brothers played pee wee football. Once I got old enough to start playing, I fell in love with the game and never looked back.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
I’d say my junior and senior years of high school because we made the state championship, and I made countless memories with my teammates. My sophomore year of college was also special because we made the Elite 8 and made school history. Of course, my junior year was a lot of fun too.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
I’d say my mom. No matter what’s going on in her life, she never stops smiling and always puts the people she cares about first. She’s the strongest woman I know, and I got my grit and work ethic from her.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love all the lessons the game teaches you and the lifelong memories you make with your teammates. I also love the physical side of the game and being able to compete for four quarters. On top of that, I enjoy the strategy that goes into every play.
If you could hang out with any football player, past or present, for a day, who would it be and why?
I’d want to hang out with Maxx Crosby. He’s one of my favorite NFL players, and he seems like a really cool guy.
What are your favorite things about playing Springfield football?
One of my favorite things is the brotherhood. A lot of football teams say they have a special bond, but after talking to people from other programs and experiencing Springfield myself, I honestly think ours is unmatched. Everyone is close, everyone holds each other accountable, and that’s a big reason we’ve been one of the top Division III teams over the past five seasons. Coach Mike Cerasuolo also does an incredible job and is one of the best coaches I’ve ever had.
What should we know about Tyler Sordillo as a person?
You should know that I genuinely care about people and want the best for everyone around me. I enjoy helping others get better and leading by example. I’m a hard worker and never want anything handed to me. I always have a chip on my shoulder and never forget where I came from. I hold myself accountable both on and off the field because I want to be the best person I can be.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
I like a 4-2-5 because it gives the defense a lot of flexibility. It does a good job of stopping the run while still allowing you to defend the pass and bring pressure from different angles. I also like how it lets everyone play fast and be aggressive, which fits the way I like to play.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
Whenever I’m faced with a challenge, I take a deep breath and adapt, overcome, and attack it. That’s something I learned at Springfield College. Coach C does a great job teaching those values, and as long as you have the core values of attitude and effort, grit, dependability, family, gratitude, and finish, you’re hard to beat.
What would a team get in a player like you?
They’ll get a hardworking, disciplined, competitive leader. I’ve been a captain multiple times throughout my football career. I lead by example, push the people around me to be better, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.
What stands out about your film the most?
I’d say my relentless pursuit and the effort I play with every snap. No matter how the game is going, I never quit and I stay composed even when things don’t go my way. I also think my strength and skill stand out, and that’s a result of all the work I put in during the offseason.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
I’d say Cam Hart. He wasn’t a captain or a guy who got a lot of attention, but I played with him during my freshman and sophomore years, and he was the definition of an unsung hero. He did everything the right way, gave maximum effort every day, and never backed down from anyone. He was also a really good leader, even without having a title, because he led by example and always put the team first. No matter who lined up across from him, he gave everything he had.
