Carved in College Football Glory: The Mount Rushmore of Quarterbacks

Mount Rushmore of College Football Quarterbacks is no easy list to carve — but based on legacy, dominance, championships, and impact on the college game, here are our four quarterbacks who deserve their faces etched into the mountain:
1. Tim Tebow – Florida (2006–2009)
Why he’s on the mountain:
Tebow wasn’t just a great player — he was a cultural phenomenon.
- Heisman Trophy Winner (2007)
- Two-time National Champion (2006, 2008)
- First player in FBS history to throw for 20+ TDs and rush for 20+ TDs in a season
- Unmatched leadership, toughness, and intensity
He embodied everything about college football passion and production.
2. Vince Young – Texas (2003–2005)
Why he’s on the mountain:
The ultimate big-game quarterback.
- Led Texas to a 13-0 season and a 2005 National Championship
- Accounted for 467 total yards and 3 TDs in the iconic Rose Bowl win over USC
- Finished 2nd in Heisman voting (2005)
- Changed how we look at dual-threat QBs in big moments
Vince’s title game performance is still arguably the greatest in college football history.
3. Tommie Frazier – Nebraska (1992–1995)
Why he’s on the mountain:
The general of Nebraska’s 90s dynasty.
- Two National Championships (1994, 1995)
- 33–3 as a starter
- MVP of three consecutive national title games
- Known for one of the most dominant championship game performances ever (1996 Fiesta Bowl vs. Florida)
Frazier never won a Heisman, but he was the heart of one of the most dominant runs in college football history.
4. Joe Burrow – LSU (2018–2019)
Why he’s on the mountain:
The greatest single season ever by a college QB.
- Heisman Trophy Winner (2019)
- 15-0 record, National Champion
- 5,671 yards, 60 TDs, 6 INTs — in the SEC
- Beat 7 Top-10 teams and made it look easy
Burrow’s 2019 season is a modern masterpiece — statistically, competitively, and historically.
Honorable Mentions:
- Cam Newton (Auburn): One year of domination, one Heisman, one natty
- Peyton Manning (Tennessee): Legendary college career, no national title
- Matt Leinart (USC): Heisman winner, 2 national titles, elite career record
- Deshaun Watson (Clemson): 2 natty appearances, 1 title, elite numbers
