Leader: What position did Penn State recruit you for?
Matt: They recruited me as a Safety/ possible Slot receiver
Leader: What positions do you feel you could impact the best at the NFL level?
Matt: I think I can excel both offensive and defensively. I feel whenever I have the ball I can make something big happen. Defensively, I feel that all my years of playing QB really help me see the field and see what the offense is doing from the Safety position.
Leader: Any athletes in your family? When did you know football was it? Any inspiration from your family?
Matt: My dad played Quarterback in college at Westminster College in PA. My mom was also a good athlete in high school. My pap played RB at Waynesburg University and was very fast.
Leader: What made Penn State the right choice for you?
Matt: The program, culture, academics and relationships made me pull the trigger. They were the first school on me and recruited me hard from the get-go. I really felt I could make an impact there and being pretty close to home is a bonus for me.
Leader: What coach recruited you from the staff? Tell us what stood out to you about coach James Franklin?
Matt: Coach Terry Smith was the first coach to really come to school and start off the process. As it went along, Coach Franklin and Coach Poindexter were the ones who recruited me the most and always made me feel like family.
Leader: What type of impact could you provide for an NFL team?
Matt: I bring leadership, IQ, work ethic, and a great mentality. I’m coachable and will do whatever my coaches ask of me.
Leader: Since you are a player that plays both sides of the ball. Who do you think is the offensive and defensive player of the year in the NFL?
Matt: I think offensively it’s either Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen. Those guys are fun to watch and put up some crazy stats. Defensively, I think Pat Surtain II is deserving for it. He’s having a great year.
Leader: Playing both sides the way you do, what player do you look at on offense or defense to model your game after?
Matt: Offensively, I’d say Josh Allen. He’s a guy who can do it with his arms and legs and isn’t afraid of contact. Defensively, I’d say Minkah Fitzpatrick. He’s a ball hawk with great tackling skills.
Leader: What was your last 40 time and what do you bench press?
Matt: My last official 40 time was a 4.4 and my max bench press is 265.
Leader: Your character in a locker room? Why would an NFL team love you in the locker room?
Matt: I’m a leader that people can look to when times get tough and know that I’m going to fight for them. I understand that there are highs and lows in every football game and know how to keep the right mindset and just play one play at a time.
