South Carolina High School Football Coach Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges
A South Carolina High School Football Coach has been arrested for attempted murder.
Preston Vinson, 48, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.
In 1995 Vinson picked USC over Tennessee, Nebraska, and Clemson coming out of Goose Creek High, where he was a standout fullback and linebacker, earning Shrine Bowl honors that season.
As a senior Vinson rushed for 1,010 yards and 16 touchdowns while recording 78 tackles on defense. He earned Most Valuable Defensive Player in the Shrine Bowl before spending the 1995 and 1996 seasons at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in Mississippi. Vinson signed again with the Gamecocks after junior college.
He played in 1997 as a reserve defensive end, with his best game coming against Vanderbilt as he had a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery that he returned 30 yards in a 35-3 win over the Commodores. He went on to play with the Charleston Swamp Foxes in the af2 classification of Arena Football in 2000 and 2001.
Vinson is a former South Carolina Gamecocks football player.
