Player Summary:

#3 Devin Kirkwood has shown to primarily align as the left corner in the defense. Entering his final year of eligibility playing his entire college career at UCLA, started 12 games in his college career. Has above-average height and weight for the position, great length, and long body type. Shows great explosive straight-line speed, is flexible in transition, and can play with more strength on blocks.

Vs the pass, has smooth feet, backpedal, and body control, shows good flexibility in his hips with great transition, and can run to his landmarks in zone coverage. Possesses top-end speed/agility to carry vertical routes, stays on the hip of the WR, and gives up marginal separation that leads to incompletions. Plays square and on half a man in press-man coverage. Displays solid football IQ while implementing proper leverage and knowing where his help is in the defense. Showcases elite athleticism/speed to recover after initially getting beaten on a route, and is able to close the distance. Shows that he can read/react, recognize, and break up WR screens when he sees it clean – He Plays flat-footed when in off-man coverage, and will give up ground and lose leverage vs double moves by WR. Lacks sufficient twitch and trigger when planting his foot in the ground and driving on the ball/WR to make a play. Not very involved in the run game, and won’t go out of his way to shed blocks and run to the ball unless it’s in his vicinity.

Scheme Fit:

3-4-5 Base

Power Statement:

Has the measurables, speed, and athleticism to be an effective corner at the next level and can add value on special teams with his size/length and straight-line speed. Project his ceiling to be a depth player in the league with position flexibility playing at FS and or Nickel.
