Player Summary:

Senior RT at Nebraska who has several years of experience as a starter. He possesses elite height and weight for his position. His size allows him to handle powerful edge rushers. Benhart has long arms to assist in pass protection and allow for separation from defenders. He also lacks the flexibility to transition from power to speed moves. He shows patience and has decent quickness when getting off the LOS. He has light feet, solid lateral movements and a good back step to deal with stunts. In pass protection, he displays a high stance with minimal bend in his hip and knees. Benhart relies on his upper body strength as he plays top heavy. He has the ability to retrace steps off of counter movements from  D-lineman. He could be more explosive off run plays. In run-blocking, he creates good leverage to open up running lanes in power & gap schemes. Typically, his stance is lower and he shifts his body weight forward. His size allows him to sustain blocks. Benhart utilizes his anchor ability against bullrushes. He can improve on his play speed and COD when assisting with blocks. Benhart’s balance and body control are inconsistent when recovering from initial contact against players with better AA. This can leave him vulnerable against quick edge rushers. While blocking, Benhart has quick and precise hand placement. He can improve on his pad level to gain better strength-leverage inorder to avoid being overpowered. Benhart  has good field awareness and above-average FB IQ to recognize defensive fronts/blitz. He also understands when to pass off defenders in zone-blocking schemes. To build upon his talent, Benhart needs to show more aggression and urgency on the field.

Scheme Fit:

RT → power running/run-heavy offense

Power Statement:

Benhart is a durable player with exceptional size. He typically does not miss games and contributes to both pass protection and run blocking. In the run game, he is a reliable pass protector and is effective against power rushers. His limited speed makes him best suited for RT over LT. Overall, his physical traits, skill, and FB IQ allow him to be an asset on the OL.
