Player Summary:
Wy’Kevious Thomas is a sixth-year senior NT with three seasons of starting experience entering the 2024 season. Typically lines up as the nose tackle, aligning as the 0/1-tech and 2i in South Alabama’s multiple front defensive scheme. Possesses poor size all-around for the position with notably long arms. He is a wrecking ball on the defensive line. He has an excellent ability to drop his pad level and anchor down vs. solo blocks, and extends to find the ball carrier in the backfield. Slants into gaps and holds his ground with a powerful lower half. Able to split double teams and show up behind the line of scrimmage. Notable lateral agility to slide down the line vs. zone scheme and maintain proper leverage. A considerable athlete for someone of his size and stature. Shows up in his gap constantly with strong hands and long arms to extend and shed. Shows an effective snatch move to throw linemen into the dirt in a pass rush. The high motor player who is always looking to make an impact. He is very light for a two-gapping nose tackle at the next level and will be limited to one-gap schemes. Limited knockback on contact, and needs to time up his punches better. Occasionally lunges with his head down when engaging. Inconsistently drops his pads vs. double teams and has been driven off the ball with ease because of it. Has some out-of-control plays that he will need to eliminate from his arsenal to play more technically sound. He will have minimal impact in the pass rush at the next level due to his lack of power and lack of moves to win. Slow speed in pursuit. Despite the bad, he possesses some high-level traits and skills that will draw attention from NFL teams.
Scheme Fit:
Fits best as a one-tech/2i in one-gap schemes at the next level. Could excel as a zero-tech two-gaper if he can add on weight.
Power Statement:
An undersized nose tackle with impressive lower body strength, aggressiveness, athleticism, and effort that makes him an enticing prospect for the next level. Shows some out-of-control plays that he will need to limit, lacks traditional size for the position, and provides minuscule pass rush value.
