2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Sean Brown, TE, Jacksonville State

Sean Brown is a great receiving TE in Jacksonville State’s offense. Hula Bowl scout Jake Kernen breaks him down as an NFL Prospect in his report.

Player Summary

RS Senior from Rome, GA. Transferred to Jacksonville St from Tennessee prior to 2021 season. Big WR build. Slender torso and arms with thicker lowers. Room to add bulk up top. Primarily serves as an H-back in their offense, yet also attaches to the end of the line or flexes out to slot. Athletic player with a massive catch radius. Good quickness out of his 2-point stance but is often late off the snap in a 3-point stance. Above- average straight-line speed for his size and position. Runs quality routes, creates space with sharp breaks and limited false steps. Displays high-level hands, did not see any drops or double catching on film. Capable of making one-handed catches on the run. Tough runner after the catch, breaking tackles and fighting for additional yardage. Good enough twitch to shake defenders and force missed tackles. Ball security needs to be improved. Carries the ball away from his body after the catch where it can be easily punched out. Blocking does not meet the expectations of professional TEs. Poor form and effort on both open field blocks and in-line blocking. Struggles to identify his responsibility and fails to use his hands to engage defenders on contact. Footwork is sloppy, grabs and fails to move his feet leading to holds. Appears soft and hesitant to initiate contact at times when asked to block. He is more likely to be a liability in the run game than an asset. While obviously limited in how he can be used, Brown has abilities that will make him an interesting prospect to NFL teams.

Scheme Fit

Would be most effective as a move TE, limiting his blocking responsibilities and taking advantage of him being a mismatch against defenders in the passing game.

Power Statement

Brown is an athletic, big bodied receiving TE that can be a useful weapon at the next level. While he has obvious limitations in run blocking, he can be a highly effective receiving option on short to intermediate throws. I expect Brown to be a fringe day 3 draft pick based on his 2024 season.
