Player Summary:
An ILB who has played a rotational reserve role the past two seasons and proved to be productive on the field in his limited snaps. Slightly undersized and compact in build with quick feet and some hip stiffness. Displays a high football IQ and instincts in all phases of the game as he is seen directing pre-snap adjustments and is able to meet ball carriers to their spot. Is productive with the pass rush as he displays solid use of hands and ability to get off blocks. Has good speed to shoot the gaps and reach the QB or RB. Uses his instincts and IQ to react to the play and get to the ball. Uses his solid AA and IQ to play the pass game, really displaying his skill in zone coverage as he can react quickly to developing route combinations. Has the speed to keep up with most receivers. His instincts and IQ help him stop the screen game and get into the back field/flats area to break up the play. Has shown his AA and speed helps him be used as a QB spy against QB’s who are known runners. He is aggressive with his tackles, showing his physicality and background in wrestling. Takes good angles on tackles and is a reliable tackler in space. Shows solid ball skills as he has recorded a good number of PBU in his career as well as attacking the ball during tackles.
His size affects his ability to see over the line and is not able to use his eyes to fully determine RPO reads. Struggles to flip his hips in man coverage and may struggle against more fluid route runners. His size occasionally is outclassed by large lineman and struggles against heavy package offenses and pulls.
Scheme Fit:
An ILB in a defense that runs mostly zone coverage where he can be added to the run game.
Power Statement:
Despite his size, he has the athletic ability, instincts and physicality to play at the next level and can play the early, run situation downs and also has a skillset that can be used on special teams. He will need some development at the next level, yet he’ll be a solid rotational role player with a significant amount of snaps.
