Ed O’Neill aka Al Bundy talks about the time he was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers

In the latest episode of his “Games with Names” podcast, former New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman interviewed actor and one-time Steeler Ed O’Neill.
O’Neill was a football player at Ohio University and eventually Youngstown State. Undrafted out of college, O’Neill signed with the Steelers in 1969, part of Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll’s first team.
During the show with Edelman, O’Neill told the story of the day he got cut, presumably July 20, 1969. That was also the day Apollo 11 landed on the moon, which he mentions.
O’Neill did not have a shot to make the Steelers with LC Greenwood and Mean “Joe” Greene. He talks about the time he was cut by the Steelers, and it was classic. He says after being cut the fans bought him drinks at a local bar.
